This boat is a Tortuga which is what the permit is now. It is a different boat than the permit 22 but not by much. I have no idea to the thickness of the hull but i do know it was built differently.
The permit is now foam filled and unsinkable and the interior is quite a bit different now.

Thanks for the clarification Andy, I fixed the heading...
Do you have any boats over in Naples?

The tortuga is still a well built boat but i simply didn't want someone to be mistaken. Thanks for changing it. I do have boats in naples - A tarpon 26 with a zuke 225 and a beautiful custom hard top and custom swim platforms There is also two permit 22's as well. and another tarpon 26 on the way. If you live in naples did you happen to catch the Naples Daily News Last week. The Tarpon 26 was named the #1 gift to give to an angler for the holidays. Albeit a very expensive gift is was a very cool article and made the cover of nautically speaking. We were very excited to see it come up. Check for the Ft. Myers news press it is in there as well on the cover.

Let us know when you get down. I can hook you up with an owner in Naples and/or you are always welcomed to come to Sarasota and visit the factory. We have a Permit 22 demo rigged and ready to go for a sea trail. We will show you the construction process and go for a ride if you like.

Will do Andy.
My primary concerns with the Permit are the lack of dry storage and rod storage, especially for fly rods. About 70% of my clients throw the fly only and carry on board about 2-3 rods a person in addition to what I bring. Usually end up with about 5 or 6 fly rods on board. My action craft has 4 tubes a side under gunwale which work out pretty well.

There are options for both. Keep in mind anything you imagine is possible. We have a new design for the fly rods that is really cool. The amount dry storage is actually surprising. It can also be increased easily.

Besides upright holders, where would you put the fly rods?

We have a prototype being made for a locker up front. There will be two lockers one on each side of the boat near the bow. i am trying to get 6 rods per side for a total of 12.
It's going to be a smooth finished fiberglass well with a nice lockable polly door. SeaDek is making reel pads for vertical surfaces to protect the reels from scratches.
We have also increased the dry storage in the bow bulkhead, 2 re-designed sealed console doors, and a few more options for smaller things. The guides that are using our permit 22 are also using the seat cooler area for their customers gear.

Sounds like you have it pretty much figured out.
Are the fly rod lockers set up for a full 9' rod or a broken down rod?
How long does it take for you to go from order to delivery on a boat?

9' or longer will be fine we just need to know where to cut the tube
we are about 8-10 weeks right now on the permit but that is due to the holidays, once christmas is over we will probably be back at our usual 3 month - 4 month.
The permit is a popular boat and there is usually about a 4 boat waiting list. We only build one at a time for quality control but the wait is well worth it.

Hi Andy,
This is a Tortuga thread, but the Tarpon is my interest. I am looking for a 26' panga dive/fish boat. I have seen your website... VERY nice. I need either an inboard with full stern platform, or a really solid 1/3 platform with outboard (like the Tarpon you show in this thread). I also need the bow-seat (or platform... can't tell what is on this boat) to be convertible to a "camper" with swing-up boards. My wife and I like to sleep under the starts... no cuddies! (I am 6'-1") We freedive, so no tank storage needed, but we do need adequate gear lockers and rod holders. No need for a BBQ... all we need is wasabi for our yellowtail sashimi. Please send me a PM to discuss this Tarpon, or another built to spec... I need to know what price range we are looking at.

Thomas Head ( THT) with the Tortuga sent me some good photos of it while i was shopping around. Its a clean boat. Has a t-top, but no leaning post or seat of any kind, no swim ladder, trim tabs, jackplate, etc. Biggest problem for me was the engine, its a Optimax I think a 90 or 115..something like that. Its a good price, and he wants to sell, but by the time I outfitted it the way I wanted it made more sense to get a new boat from Andy. Especially since I didnt want Mercury ( no local service) and I wanted 150 hp.
If anyone wants the photos, I can email em.
