(clap) My idea of the best boat for me.
First what do you use a boat for-I prefer to fish for Striper-hbrids, Stripers, Freshwater Drum, and Catfish. For the Striper type fishing I like a boat that I can run up to a place and check it out without getting up and moving around like you do in a bass boat. Also I like it light to make it easier and cheaper to pull. Safety is a major concern, maximum floation. I don't fish shallow water but I still like the boat to run shallow and to be easy to push so that I don't have to have over 90hp. I much prefer to have the steering wheel in the front of the boat so that you have all the rest of the boat to move around in and to haul your junk (whoops I meant stuff) plus if you take others with you you don't have to be moving front to back. I have had the steering wheel in the front on all my boats but two which were center consoles. Center console boats aren't too bad if they are large like the Carolina Skiffs. The worst thing you can do on a center console boat is to have a flop back cooler seat in it. I have never seen anyone doing anything sideways yet except fishing, you don't sit sideways to eat or watch TV or visit with folks so why sit sideways to fish. I put loose seats in where I can move them around, I have island seats with the fiberglass bases and the stainless steel leg type under some. I had two center console boats where I left the console loose so that I could scoot it over to the side when I stopped. It worked ok most of the time except sometimes it wanted to move around when I was moving. The boat I have now with the wheel up front is the roughest riding and the wettest of all that I have had so I''m looking for a little comfort which is the reason I am looking at the Panga hull. I don't see any way it wouldn't be a huge improvement. I will put either a 90 Honda or 90 E-tec on it. I imagine that the new 90 Honda is a nearly perfect motor but I love the idea of the new E-tecs. If they work that is. I usually put 12 rod holders all around the boat. I will send some pictures of what I use. A boat needs enough room for your type use without being crowded. I use to keep an annual fishing licenses in 4 states and would load up and go to a lake and stay in the boat until I was ready to come home no matter how many days it was. Maybe more later.
